IHSMA Festival Results & Upcoming Concert

On Friday, May 6th, the Oskaloosa High School Concert Choir, Chamber Choir, Band, and Orchestra traveled to Grinnell High School for the annual Iowa High School Music Association's Large Group Festival. Each year choirs, bands, and orchestras across the state perform and are evaluated on a 1-5 scale (1 is a "Superior" performance, 2 "Excellent", 3 "Good," etc.)

The Concert Choir received a Division II (Excellent) rating for their performance of Lamentations of Jeremiah by Z. Randall Stroope and Hold On, arranged by Victor Johnson. The Chamber Choir received a Division I rating (Superior) for their two-song performance of Mozart's Lacrimosa and an arrangement of the spiritual Wade In The Water, featuring soloists Aaron Scholes and Cierra Williams. Both choirs are directed by Chris Weinreich and assisted by Hannah Woerner, student teacher.

The Oskaloosa Orchestra received a Division I (Superior) rating for their performance of "Dashing Away" from John Rutter's Suite for Strings, Snowberry by Yukiko Nishimura, and Praeludium from Danish composer Edvard Grieg's Holberg Suites. The orchestra is conducted by Tyler Coleman.

The High School Band received a Division I (Superior) rating for their performances of American Folk Rhapsody, No. 2 by Clare Grundman, conducted by Rusty Raymond, and Variations on a Korean Folk Song by John Barnes Chance, conducted by Jim DePrizio.

All four ensembles will meet for the final performance of this school year on Monday, May 16th in the Oskaloosa High School Gym at 7:00. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend this free concert.

Congratulations to all of the student musicians for their hard work this year and impressive ratings at this year's IHSMA Large Group Festival!
